TEFL Diploma (Trinity LTCL Diploma in TESOL)
If you are already an experienced teacher, have an existing teaching certificate or want to gain a high level qualification that enables you to teach at University level then the Trinity TESOL Diploma is an excellent option.
The Diploma in TESOL is a distance learning course and candidates usually take between 12 months and 24 months to complete the course. Note that there is a 2 week residential component at the end of the course.

DIPLOMA IN TESOL COURSE CONTENT
The Language Institute (TLI Ltd) LTCL Course discusses in detail:
- the main features of modern English as used communicatively, both in speech and print or writing, and the most usual ways in which people express common attitudes, feelings and relationships in English;
- ways of teaching English as a foreign, second or international language in a variety of learning/teaching circumstances, at various age-levels and stages of achievement, for various purposes, and to various types of learner and class;
- the development of major approaches to language learning and teaching and important factors which have influenced this development;
- the roles and status of English in the contemporary world; the major differences between English and candidates' L1 (if applicable).
Eight mandatory assignments will be set at regular intervals during the course. Candidates must complete all of these and submit them for marking and comment. In setting these assignments and other study topics, particular attention will be paid to questions set in Trinity LTCL past examination papers.
Candidates will be able to ask for advice on any aspect of the course at any time by telephone, fax or e-mail.
A basic list of text-books will be recommended and it is hoped that candidates will acquire copies of these. A further general reference list will be supplied.
Course Teaching Units will be sent at regular intervals depending on the number of months opted for. The Trinity College, London, LTCL Examination consists of 1 written paper, an oral interview and observed classroom teaching.
The TLI Distance Learning Program prepares candidates for this written paper. Candidates will be prepared for the oral interview and observed classroom teaching during a 14 day Full-time Residential Component here in Edinburgh. During this component candidates will receive intensive instruction in Phonetics and Phonology ( major interview topics) and engage in classroom teaching practice which will culminate in a sample lesson observed and assessed by an External Trinity Moderator.
