Please look below for the content of each week of lessons. You can choose which week(s) you prefer.
Week 1 (March 1 to March 5)
At the end of this week students will:
Have had an introduction to both the Listening and Speaking parts of the exam
Have become familiar with Section 1 and Section 2 of the listening parts of the exam
Have looked at Study Skills to aid the above – key words, reasons for choosing / rejecting answers
Have been introduced to Part 1 of the Speaking
Have learned thinking phrases (“Let me see., etc,)
Understand the IELTS writing exam structure
Be familiar with the types of visual material for Task 1
Week 2 (March 8 to March 12)
At the end of this week students will:
Have analysed the structure and layout of agree/disagree essays
Have had an introduction to the Reading parts of the exam
Be familiar with choosing paragraph headings from a list
Have become familiar with Section 3 and Section 4 of the listening test
Have looked at Study Skills to aid the above – key words, reasons for choosing / rejecting answers
Have been introduced to Part 2 of the Speaking: comprehension of the task and brief note- taking
Be able to identify trends in relation to multiple graphs
Week 3 (March 15 to March 19)
At the end of this week students will:
Have looked at the structure and layout of advantage/disadvantage essays
Have studied passive forms to describe processes
Have practised writing Task 1 (process)
Have identified information in a passage using ‘true/false/not given’
Have analysed the claim of the writer using ‘yes/no/not given’
Have looked at Part 3 of the Speaking and practised with a partner on a range of common IELTS topics
Have looked at how to interpret charts, graphs, etc and the language needed for Section 3 of the Listening
Have learned some lexis connected to bar charts and graphs
Have looked at Section 4 of the Listening: guessing words that go in the space, thinking about collocation
Week 4 (March 22 to March 26)
At the end of this week students will:
Have studied a range of linking words(concession) to aid Task 2 cohesion
Have analysed the layout and structure of opinion essays
Have practised writing Task 2 (advantages/disadvantages)
Be able to answer questions on a text using multiple-choice questions
Have practiced short-answer questions from a passage
Have looked at sentence completion in the reading part of the exam
Have done a mock Listening for each Section of the test:
Have analysed each and looked at the lexis and why the other answers were incorrect
Week 5 (March 29 to April 2)
At the end of this week students will:
Have done a mock test for each section of the Speaking test
Have had feedback and direction from the teacher re. the mocks
Be familiar with the use of articles and noun phrases in academic writing
Have looked at the structure and layout of problem and solution essays
Have discovered the importance of synonyms and word formation in academic writing
Have practiced writing Task 1 (multiple graphs - trend & comparison)
Be familiar with and be able to respond appropriately to map tasks
Be able to write suitable introductions and conclusions for the various types of Task 2 essays
Week 6 (April 5 to April 9)
At the end of this week students will:
Have looked at the structure and layout of discussion essays
Have practiced writing Task 2 (opinion essay)
Have practiced note/summary/flow-chart/table completion from a passage
Be able to label a diagram based on information from a text
Have looked at classification and matching questions in the Reading part of the exam
Have recapped on the tasks for each part of the Listening and Speaking
Have had last – minute tips and techniques for improving each part
Have been given a personal tutorial with individual guidance for the real test
