Our procedures for caring for your child
The safety and welfare of your child is extremely important to us.
Before your child attends an English course with us we will ask you to complete a consent form giving him or her permission to study at The Language Institute.
We will ask you if you want your child to be able to leave the school building during breaks and if he or she can attend social events with other students.
We will also ask you to confirm where your child is staying (for example with relatives / friends).
If your child is staying in homestay accommodation organised by us we will also ask you if you want your child to be able to leave the house by themselves and also if they can use public transport by themselves.
When your child is studying with us we will take every possible measure to keep them safe and to look after their welfare. We will contact you immediately if any problems arise and if your child is unhappy or in any danger.
Please read the following information so that we know you understand when and where we will be responsible for your child and also when and where we will not be responsible.
When and where your child will be supervised
THE SCHOOL
When your child is studying in the school we will be responsible for him or her when they are in their lessons. If they are under 16 we will not place them in classes with anyone who is over the age of 18.
We will also only use teachers who have a PVG scheme certificate (this is evidence from the Scottish authorities that the teacher is suitable to work with children and other vulnerable people).
ACCOMMODATION
If your child is living in accommodation provided by us we will be responsible for your child when they are in the accommodation.
We will only place your child in accommodation where the responsible adult has a PVG certificate. At all times when your child is in the accommodation he or she will be under the supervision of a responsible adult.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
If your child attends a social activity organised by us we will be responsible for your child.
There will be at least 1 responsible adult for every 20 students on these activities and all the staff accompanying your child on the activity will have a PVG certificate. Your child will be under the supervision of a responsible adult at all times during the activity.
When your child will not be supervised
THE SCHOOL
When your child is studying in the school they will have some breaks. During these breaks your child will not always be supervised by a responsible adult.
When your child goes to the bathroom during lessons he or she will also not be supervised.
If you have given your child permission to leave the school building during breaks he or she will not be supervised outside of the school building.
ACCOMMODATION
Your child will not be supervised by any of our staff if they are not in homestay accommodation organised by us.
If your child is staying in home stay accommodation organised by us he or she will not be supervised when they are outside of the homestay if you have given permission for he or she to leave the house by themselves.
If you have given permission for your child to use public transport he or she will not be supervised while using this.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
If your child is attending a social activity organised by us they will occasionally be unsupervised. An example of this would be in a museum or gallery when the students are given some time to explore the attraction by themselves.
If you have any concerns or questions about how we look after your child when they are attending The Language Institute please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.
