COURSE FORMAT

Our Trinity Diploma in TESOL course is delivered by the Moodle online learning portal. An internet enabled PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone can be used to complete the modules.

Candidates are required to work through 60 weekly modules and complete a series of assignments. Each module has a recommended reading list and forum in which candidates can post questions to course tutors. Candidates can also ask questions or get in touch with tutors via email or Skype.

After completing the 60 weekly modules candidates will attend a 2 week residential component in Edinburgh where the final exam will be undertaken (see below for assessment details).

ASSESSMENT

All candidates will be required to complete 4 units in order to be awarded the DipTESOL.

Unit 1 – Written Exam
The 3 hour exam covers Language, Learning and Teaching and Professional development. This exam is externally assessed by Trinity College London and is done during the residential component.

Unit 2 – Coursework Portfolio
The portfolio is comprised of an Observation Instrument, Self-Developmental Record and Independent Research Project. Normally done during the 60 week module stage of the course, this unit is internally assessed by course tutors.

Unit 3 – Interview
Candidates are required to talk on a prepared topic with the examiner and discuss further topics of theory and practice. Additionally, a phonemic transcription must be done during the interview. The interview is carried out during the residential component and is externally assessed by Trinity College London

Unit 4 – Teaching Practice
5 observed lessons are carried out during the residential component. The 5th lesson is observed and assessed by Trinity College London.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

All candidates must be an English teacher with at least 2 years full time teaching experience and a degree.
